Our Family Story
Written By: Alexandra De Antoni (Foster and Adoptive Mom)
Becoming a foster parent was our opportunity to serve our community by helping our most vulnerable children. On May 14th, 2014, we opened our hearts and our home to become a licensed foster parent. On that very same day we received our first baby. Since then, we have welcomed 20 children in our home. At times our house provided a home for more the six kids at the same time, this is really a challenge!!!! But it’s worth it.
My husband and I are both from South America, he is from Argentina and I am from Colombia and our home is a melting pot of many cultures. Christ is our guide and strength allowing us the opportunity to help these children. Let me tell you something…. being a foster mom is the most beautiful experience. To love a child is a miraculous thing, it is an unimaginable blessing that foster brings not only to our family but everyone around them. A lot of people ask us, “How are you doing?” “Is it easy to say goodbye?” and my answer is “IT HURTS EVERYTIME and I cry EVERYTIME, however I pray to GOD to give me the strength to continue to help more kids.”
We have never missed a court hearing from any of our foster kids, sometimes the judges and attorneys were a little uncomfortable with our presence in the court hearing but we are the ONLY REAL VOICE FOR THOSE KIDS. And eventually we will be part of their team!
We have adopted Isabella Alexandra, she is a beautiful girl that we received from another foster mom, Lady Garcia, when she was 14 days old. Isabella went to her house when she was released from the hospital. Isabella speaks Spanish and loves to eat peas and beans, she is very coquette. She loves to play and be all the time with her brother, “Baby J”, who is going to be adopted by us next month. He is an amazing boy that loves music and plays basketball, loves to eat spaghetti and cooks “ponquesitos” cakes. We love them and they are our World!!!
We have not given life to these children, but what we do know is that our hearts have grown with them and my life we will give for them if it is necessary.
This is the definition of unconditional parental love and it is a privilege that God gave us!
